Santo Domingo Real Estate Information
Santo Domingo, modern and cosmopolitan city, is the birth place of the American civilization in the 15th and 16th centuries. Founded in 1496, it is the oldest city of the New World, and its Colonial Zone, with more than 300 monuments, was classified in 1990 by the UNESCO as Worldwide Heritage for Humanity.

The colonial area is framed by the Ozama river and the Carribean Sea. The city then spreads towards the East and the West, with modern avenues and promenades, designed for strolling. It is a town full of contrasts, unique really.
Most of the buildings of this historical area are five-hundred year-old properties, that all possess the same classical Spanish architecture. They consist of two large rooms (“la sala” and “el comedor”) with high ceilings, exposed
beams, and arcades, that open to an interior courtyard ("el patio"), and usually a garden and additional bedrooms. Many are abandonned or in ruins, but all have kept their old world charm reminiscent of a glorious past..
For some years now, the Dominican Government and numerous private investors have started on the sanitation of the Colonial Zone, transforming it into a fashionable and sought after area. Today this area is by itself a growing real estate market.
